Event looks at Mid-Town Kingston’s history
WHAT: Presentation, “The Life and Death of the Kingston Post Office (and the History of Midtown Kingston)” WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. WHERE: Community Room of the Saugerties Public Library, 91 Washington Ave., Saugerties DETAILS: The Friends of Historic Saugerties welcome Stephen Blauweiss and Karen Berelowtiz for a presentation on Midtown Kingston’s history, told using the old post office as a central character. The presenters use the post office as a way to tell the story not only of Kingston’s history, but that of America in the 20th century. The presentation will feature rare photographs, historic postcards and artifacts from their recently published book. The talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session and an opportunity to purchase a signed copy of their book. Admission is free, but seating is limited. English Country Dance in Port Ewen on Aug. 3
WHAT: English Country Dance WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 3, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., with a workshop at 7 p.m. WHERE: Reformed Church of Port Ewen, 160 Salem St., Port Ewen DETAILS: Enjoy dancing to traditional tunes played by the band Tiddely Pom, featuring musicians Sue Polansky, Katie Jeannotte and Stewart Dean. The caller is Val Medve. Wear comfortable shoes. Potluck refreshments will be served at the break. The workshop at 7 p.m. is important for newcomers to better understand the vocabulary of English Country Dance. Admission is $10, $5 for full-time students.
