Event looks at Mid-Town Kingston’s history

WHAT: Presentati­on, “The Life and Death of the Kingston Post Office (and the History of Midtown Kingston)” WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. WHERE: Community Room of the Saugerties Public Library, 91 Washington Ave., Saugerties DETAILS: The Friends of Historic Saugerties welcome Stephen Blauweiss and Karen Berelowtiz for a presentati­on on Midtown Kingston’s history, told using the old post office as a central character. The presenters use the post office as a way to tell the story not only of Kingston’s history, but that of America in the 20th century. The presentati­on will feature rare photograph­s, historic postcards and artifacts from their recently published book. The talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session and an opportunit­y to purchase a signed copy of their book. Admission is free, but seating is limited. English Country Dance in Port Ewen on Aug. 3

WHAT: English Country Dance WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 3, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., with a workshop at 7 p.m. WHERE: Reformed Church of Port Ewen, 160 Salem St., Port Ewen DETAILS: Enjoy dancing to traditiona­l tunes played by the band Tiddely Pom, featuring musicians Sue Polansky, Katie Jeannotte and Stewart Dean. The caller is Val Medve. Wear comfortabl­e shoes. Potluck refreshmen­ts will be served at the break. The workshop at 7 p.m. is important for newcomers to better understand the vocabulary of English Country Dance. Admission is $10, $5 for full-time students.
