Rebels Red 14U wins fourth straight tourney title

ROME, N.Y. >> The Mid-Hudson Rebels Red 14-and-under travel softball team went up in class and still won.

The Rebels won their fourth consecutive tournament title, capturing the Rome 16U Invitational.

The team went undefeated in the event, winning three games in pool play and three more in bracket play.

It allowed only one run in pool play. Ava Del Salto and Abby Kemp combined to shut out Hazen’s Northstars 12-0, Trista Lukaszewski one-hit the Adirondack Diamonds 10-0 and Del Salto defeated the Webster Xtreme 10-1.

Lukaszewski tossed a 4-hitter to defeat the St. Lawrence Thunder 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Del Salto then struck out nine in a 9-2 semifinal win over the Diamonds, then fanned 11 in an 11-4 win over the Rome Spirit in the title game.

Del Salto finished with 28 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.

Leading the Rebels offense were Emma Haller (six singles, double, triple, seven RBI, nine runs), Cady Sickler (11 runs, eight singles, two doubles, triple), Gigi Koch (seven RBI, six runs, two singleds, double, triple), McKenna Fairley (five RBI, seven runs, three singles, three doubles, triple) and Kemp (eight RBI, four runs, four singles, double, triple).

Other top hitters were Rachel Hoyt (four RBI, five runs, three singles, double, triple), Barrett Holsapple (five RBI, singles, double), Gianna Tisch (six runs, four singles, double), Audrey Werba (three runs, two singles), Lukaszewski (two doubles, single) and Del Salto (three singles, double, three runs).

For the season, the Rebels Red have a combined 45-9-1 record.
