Members of U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney’s extended family were aboard a plane that crashed Friday in Wappinger.

The small plane that crashed Friday near Hudson Valley Regional Airport was carrying four people who are members of U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney’s extended family, the congressman’s office said.

The pilot and the three passengers were identified as members of the Scott family and are from Ohio, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. The pilot and two of the passengers were admitted to area hospitals.

Maloney, D-Cold Spring, issued a public statement on Saturday praising rescue workers.

“While we’re still learning more, Randy (Maloney’s husband, Randy Florke) and I want to extend our appreciation to the first responders and local authorities who were on the scene, as well as the medical teams working to treat our family’s injuries,” Maloney said in the statement. “We ask that you keep David and Tara Scott, and their kids, Jocelyn and Ryan, in your prayers as they continue to undergo treatment.”

While in flight, David Scott reported a low fuel emergency and was attempting to land at the airport, authorities said. The plane, which was traveling from Ohio to Rhode Island, crashed at about 2:40 p.m. into a wooded area south of Maloney Road, they added.

David Scott, 50, the pilot of the Piper PA-46, was extricated from the wreckage by firefighters and transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla by medevac helicopter in critical condition. He remained in the intensive care unit Saturday. An update on his condition was not available.

Tara Scott, 50, and Jocelyn Scott, 20, were taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Tara Scott has been discharged, and Jocelyn Scott remains in the intensive care unit, according to the hospital.

The third passenger, 17-year-old Ryan Scott, was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie and admitted.

Sheriff Adrian “Butch” Anderson said in a prepared statement, “All of our first responders worked side-by-side under adverse conditions to locate and rescue the victims in this plane crash.”

The Sheriff’s Office, state police, New Hamburg Fire and East Fishkill Fire deployed off-road utility vehicles to reach the crash site.

The coordinated rescue operation included New Hackensack Fire, LaGrange Fire, Hughsonville Fire, EMStar, Mobile Life, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, Dutchess County Department of Public Works and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, as well as state police and the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration are continuing the investigation into the crash.
