Saugerties resident guilty in child porn case
Matthew Osuba faces up to 70 years in prison, authorities say
A 34-year-old man faces up to 70 years in prison after being convicted on charges stemming from a child pornography case.
A federal jury has found a 34-yearold Saugerties man guilty of charges stemming from a child pornography case, and he now faces up to 70 years in prison, authorities said.
Matthew Osuba, 34, of Saugerties, was convicted on Friday, Aug. 9, of sexual exploitation of a child, distributing child pornography and possessing child pornography following a three-day jury trial, authorities said. The charges carry a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of up to 70 years in prison, followed by a supervised release term of up to life.
Osuba will also be required to register as a sex offender.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Grant C. Jaquith and James N. Hendricks, special agent in charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities said the evidence at trial showed that Osuba videotaped himself sexually exploiting a minor, that he sent three images of child pornography over the Internet using a chat application on his mobile phone, and possessed three additional images of prepubescent girls engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 12, 2019, before Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas J. McAvoy.
The case was investigated by the FBI, New York State Police, the Town of Colonie Police Department, and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. attorneys Katherine Kopita and Shira C. Hoffman.
