Man dies, wife in critical condition after vehicle is struck by tractor-trailer in Goshen
An 80-yearold man died and his wife is in critical condition after their vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer on Tuesday, state police said.
Police said troopers responded to the intersection of Pulaski Highway and Pumpkin Swamp Road in the town of Goshen at around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, for a report of a car/tractor trailer personal injury automobile accident.
Police said an investigation revealed that a 2018 Ford Edge being operated by Anthony P. Galimi, 80, of Crestwood, was stopped at a stop sign on Pumpkin Swamp road attempting to make a left hand turn onto Pulaski Highway. His wife Georgeanna L. Galimi, 76, was in the passenger seat, police said.
A 2008 Peterbuilt Motors Tractor Trailer operated by Randolph L. Baim, 47, of Youngsville, was traveling Northbound on Pulaski Highway.
As the tractor trailer approached the intersection of Pumpkin Swamp Road, police said the Ford Edge “entered the intersection and attempted to go South on Pulaski Highway and was struck by the tractor trailer which subsequently overturned.”
Galimi was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. Galimi was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where she is currently listed in critical condition, according to authorities.
Baim said that he was not injured as a result of the accident, police said.
