Area business people ‘On the Move’

Jordan Scruggs has been named the first director for SUNY Ulster’s recently developed New Start for Women program.

Scruggs, who has a history of social justice work in Ulster County, will run the logistics of the program, work as a recruiter and advocate for students, and pursue funding for the program long term.

Scruggs is responsibl­e for building non-academic programmin­g, including profession­al and personal developmen­t opportunit­ies, workshops, and resources. She is also responsibl­e for recruiting and supporting women in the program, and she will personally oversee the relationsh­ip between each woman and their mentor and work closely with them to design and achieve their objectives.

Scruggs has worked as Director of Community Ministries for Saint James United Methodist Church in Kingston for four years. She is an ordained clergy member, a Hudson Valley Fellow at the Good Work Institute, and was an Ulster County YWCA Human Rights Advocate of the Year in 2016. She is also a member of several local boards, including Kingston Midtown Rising, Inc., the Rising Hope Prison Education Initiative, and TransArt & Cultural Services.

••• Paula T. McKeown is the new principal of CairoDurha­m High School. McKeown has been an educator for 22 years, holding positions such as high school English and computer literacy teacher, high school principal and college professor.

••• Carl C. Naumann has been promoted to AVP/Security Officer/Assistant BSA Officer at their Kingston headquarte­rs of Ulster Savings Bank.

Naumann, a Kingston resident, will oversee the bank’s security systems, policies, and procedures, along with ensuring the safety of bank customers, employees, and assets. He will also be in charge of administer­ing the bank’s Identity Theft Program and will assist with the Anti-Money Laundering and Bank Secrecy Act programs as well.

A graduate of Manhattan College, Naumann holds a Bachelor’s degree in economics and finance. He is also a 2017 graduate of the Ulster Leadership Developmen­t Institute. In the community, he is involved with the Ulster County Enhanced Multi-Disciplina­ry Team whose goal is to prevent elder abuse and identity theft.

Naumann joined Ulster Savings Bank in 2013.

••• Kristian Diaz and Christian Trocki have joined the Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union as branch managers.

Diaz will be based at their newest office in Chester, scheduled to open later

this year. Diaz holds an MBA from the University of Scranton and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administra­tion from Baruch College. He lives in Goshen and is fluent in Spanish.

Trocki will be responsibl­e for business developmen­t and member service at the credit union’s New Windsor branch. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Pennsylvan­ia State University and has extensive experience in both personal sales as well as staff management. He lives with his family in Ulster County.

••• The Children’s Home of Poughkeeps­ie announced six new board members and a new executive committee for the July 1, 2019June 30, 2020 term.

The six newly elected board members are Mary Lou Davis, Nick Garin, Sherry LaTassa, Linda Lurie, Valerie Murphy and Kim Scoralick.

Davis has previously served on the Children’s Home Board from 2009 – 2018, including as Board President from 2016 – 2018. Davis has taught mathematic­s on the middle school, high school, and college levels, along with serving as a private tutor, math coach and consultant. She is a member and former president of the Poughkeeps­ie Branch of the American Associatio­n of University Women and was active on the AAUW New York State board, including serving as president of the board.

Garin moved to Poughkeeps­ie in 1980, when he became Executive Director of Mid-Hudson Legal Services. Two years later, Garin joined the Poughkeeps­ie Regional NYS Attorney General’s Office, where he recently retired as Assistant Attorney General and Public Advocate.

LaTassa is a lifetime resident of the Hudson Valley. She holds a bachelor’s degree and and master’s degree in nursing from Mount Saint Mary College. She is a family nurse practition­er with 27 years of experience, specializi­ng in sexual assault and child abuse pediatrics. Sherry currently holds positions at Child Abuse Pediatrics at the Westcheste­r Institute for Human Developmen­t and MidHudson Regional Hospital as the Forensic Acute Care Team Coordinato­r. Additional­ly, she serves on the Dutchess County Sexual Assault Response Team with a passion of educating college students in self-care after sexual assault.

Lurie has lived in Hyde Park for the last 48 years. She served as a case manager for the Dutchess County Office of the Aging for 31 years. Lurie started an exercise program for senior citizens which has grown to over 20 programs today. She served on the board of the Vassar Warner Home for 9 years and Dutchess County Home Matters for 5 years. She is a current member of the American Associatio­n of University Women.

Murphy is currently the district treasurer and accountant for the Spackenkil­l Union Free School District. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fordham University, a MBA in Informatio­n Technology and Organizati­onal Behavior from New York University, is a Certified Informatio­n Systems Auditor and has extensive financial experience in both the corporate and not-for-profit sectors. She is a longtime volunteer at the Children’s Home.

Scoralick is excited to join the board and add a foster/adoptive parent perspectiv­e. Scoralick and her husband Brian’s youngest two children spent a brief time at the Children’s Home before joining their family. Kim, Brian and their four children have been involved with the Children’s Home for over 15 years. She is a third grade teacher in the Spackenkil­l Union Free School District . Scoralick is co-founder of Tabby’s Vision, which helps support visually impaired individual­s in Dutchess County.
