Shame on supporters of the Trump monster

-

Dear Editor, The Aug. 12 New York Times reported: “The Trump administration will penalize legal immigrants who rely on public programs, such as food stamps and government-subsidized housing, as part of a new policy to slow legal immigration into the United States and reduce the number of immigrants granted permanent legal status.”

Shame on you who support this monster, despite his persecuting already-persecuted immigrants, illegal or not (see above). Shame on you voters who elect to separate desperate families and imprison panicstricken children, for the racist attitudes you implicitly share with this monster and the racist policies you implicitly endorse.

Shame on you who support this monster, despite his issuing death sentences to life-sustaining climate rules (see “The Trump administration will change the way the Endangered Species Act is applied, significantly weakening the nation’s bedrock conservation law,” from the same New York Times issue). Shame on you big-money donors who pursue windfalls while polluting the wind, forgetting that “windfall” also means “an apple blown down by the wind,” and that you and I and our kids are apples hanging on the Tree of Life, hanging more precariously each day as you and your monster cut down our tree—cut short our lives— for profit.

There’s a word limit on letters to this newspaper, so I’ve focused on one day’s mayhem. But there are other days, and other assaults on humanity, and other enablers— e.g., complicit politicians; white nationalists, the NRA, and the domestic terrorists they spawn; evangelists and AIPAC. Shame on all of you. Tom Cherwin Saugerties, N.Y.
