Kingston tops Rondout Valley 2-0

Second half lifts Kingston High girls to a victory over Rondout Valley as the Tigers seek a Section 9 playoff bid.

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. » A strong start to the second half lifted Kingston High to a 2-0 victory over Rondout Valley in a nonleague girls soccer match Tuesday as the Tigers continue their push for a Section 9 postseason berth.

After both sides played to a scoreless draw in the first, Arianna Burns scored off a Delisianna Naccarato assist in the 41st minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Burns found the net again off a feed from Adrianna Williams to extend Kingston’s advantage to 2-0.

“Kingston posted a shutout with great work from Sunra Thomas, Naccarato, Williams and Roaa Weisenberg,” Tigers coach Nick Malvai said.

Rondout goalkeeper Makayla Ryan kept the match close, stopping 11 shots.

Kyla Burns had five saves for the Tigers (6-6) to earn the shutout. Burns, who is verbally committed to Division-I University at Albany, found herself on opposite sides of the field with her father, Joe Burns. Kyla’s long time club coach, Joe Burns serves as an assistant coach at Rondout.

Red Hook 5, Spackenkil­l 0

At Red Hook, The Raiders got off to a 4-0 lead in the first half

and never looked back as they cruised past the Spartans to improve to a 13-0 mark.

After 24 minutes of scoreless soccer, Grace Henning got Red Hook on the board in the 24th minute.

Kai Diener connected off a Samantha Riley assist one minute later to make it 2-0 Raiders.

Casey Shein deposited a feed from Riley in the 33rd minute and Grace Henning put a feed from Tessa Husted

between the posts five minutes later to push Red Hook’s lead to 4-0.

Grace Berardi later scored the Raiders’ fifth goal of the evening off a Lily Kafka assist in the 78th minute

Red Hook dominated 26-0 in shots and 7-0 in corners.

Clare Sottile recorded 13 saves for the Spartans (311-0)

Ellenville 5, Webutuck 0

At Webutuck, Already leading 2-0, the Devils (9-4 overall, 8-2 division) scored three unanswered goals in the second half to sink the Warriors (1-11) in a MidHudson Athletic League contest.

After 35 minutes of scoreless soccer, Katharine Lopez took a feed from Sarah Stevens and shot it between Webutuck goalkeeper Emily Thompson and the far post from 20 yards out to give Ellenville a 1-0 lead.

In the 42nd minute Lopez blasted the ball into the side netting from 22 yards out to make it 2-0.

After being played the ball by Isabela Castro, Lopez finished a left-footed

shot from 12 yards out to the near post to earn the hat trick.

Julia Connor later dipped a shot from 15 yards out over Thompson and into the net in the 76th minute to make it 4-0 Devils.

Castro fired a shot to the near post from 10 yards out after a scramble in the box three minutes later to put the game away.

Ellenville dominated 26-5 in shots and held a 5-4 edged in corners.

Adriana Anderson made four saves for the Devils, while Thompson finished with 13 for the Warriors.
