Term length question, unopposed candidates on this year’s town ballot
The candidates in the town’s upcoming election are all incumbents running unopposed, meaning the only suspense will be the outcome of a referendum about term lengths.
Town voters are being asked whether the terms of the town supervisor and highway superintendent should be extended from two years to four. If the referendum is approved, the longer terms will take effect starting Jan. 1, 2020.
The elected positions on the Rosendale ballot this year are supervisor, highway superintendent, three seats on the Town Board and one judgeship.
Supervisor Jeanne Walsh, 61, of 114 Charming Barn Road, is seeking a fifth term. Her name will be on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative lines on the ballot.
Walsh is a lifelong resident of the town.
Ernest Klepeis, 61, of 55 River Road, and Chris Pryslopski, 45, of 79 Bloomingdale Road, are vying for two fouryears terms on the Ton Board. Klepeis is running for his second term. Pryslopski has served one full term and the final two years on an uncompleted term.
Both board members are running on the Democratic, Republican and Working Families lines on the ballot, and Pryslopski also will be on the Conservative line.
A third sitting councilman John Hughes, 58, of 40 Main St., Bloomington, is running for the final three years on an uncompleted term.
Town Highway Superintendent Robert Gallagher, 56, is seeking a fourth term and will appear on the the Democratic, Republican, Conservative and Independence lines on the ballot.
Town Justice Carl Hornbeck, 67, of 32 Messmer Ave., is seeking a second four-year term and will appear on the Democratic, Republican, Conservative, and Independence Party lines.
Voters can cast their ballots at any of Ulster County’s eight early voting sites between Oct. 26 and Nov. 3. Election Day is Nov. 5.
