Mount Academy rolls over Ellenville

ESOPUS, N.Y. » Benson Arnold secured a hat trick within the first 14 minutes of play and finished with four goals on the evening to lead Mount Academy to a 7-1 win over an injury-depleted Ellenville side in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League boys soccer match Tuesday.

Arnold deposited a feed from Austin Winter in the third minute to give the Eagles (12-1) a 1-0 lead. He connected two minutes later off a feed from Caleb Meier to put the Mount up 2-0.

Arnold finished a ball from Connor Huleatt in the 14th minute to earn the hat trick and make it 3-0 Eagles.

Huleatt scored a goal of his own off a Keith Barth feed a minute later to push the Eagles’ advantage to 4-0.

The score would remain the same until the 42nd minute when Arnold put a ball between the posts to make it 5-0.

Darren Baird scored off a Matt

Rimes assist in the 46th minute and Rimes pitched in a goal three minutes later to round out the scoring.

Gavin Baxter scored the Devils’ (9-3-1 overall, 6-3-1 MHAL) lone goal in the

78th minute to break up the shutout.

“Well this a tough game for us,” Ellenville Coach Maxwell Mead said. “We are dealing with a bunch of injuries and just couldn’t piece anything together to slow these guys down. We handed a varsity debut to sophomore JV keeper Alex Zweck who worked really

hard to close down the angles, but they were just too clever with their finishing.”

The Eagles led 13-7 in shots and 1-0 in corners.

Glover Winter came up with one save for the Mount and Alex Zweck registered one stop for the Devils.

Highland 3, Saugerties 1

At Saugerties, Tim Petty’s hat trick keyed a Huskies victory.

Liam Whelan added an assist for Highland.

Mitch Hart scored the Sawyers’ lone goal off a Jack Quinlan assist.

Chris Wood made five saves for Huskies, while Dan MacIsaac also had five for Saugerties.
