Schoonmake­r’s OT goal lifts Rondout past Red Hook

RED HOOK, N.Y. » Sophia Schoonmake­r’s goal with four minutes left in overtime made the difference as Rondout Valley (11-2 overall, 8-2 MHAL) edged Red Hook 1-0 in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League field hockey match Tuesday.

“Red Hook (7-5-1) played an aggressive game from start to finish,” Raiders coach Cari Meltzer said. “The backfield stayed strong in the circle and the forwards had opportunit­ies to score.

“Shout-out to Maddie Anderson, whose efforts on defensive penalty corners was brilliant.”

The Ganders led 16-6 shots and 16-1 in penalty corners.

Azure Jones made three saves for Rondout while Phoenix Mercier had 12 for the Raiders.

Kingston 4, Pine Plains/ Rhinebeck 1

At Kingston, Tori Quick scored two goals to lead the Tigers over the Bombers to earn the no. 1 seed in the MHAL playoffs.

The two teams will face each other at Kingston next Tuesday in the MHAL semifinals.

Lizzy Hakin and Bridgie Loughlin each pitched in a goal and Rieley Fitzgerald had three assists for Kingston.

Penny Paladino’s goal broke up the shut out.

“Kingston had an outstandin­g game from Rieley Fitzgerald who generated many scoring opportunit­ies on attack,”

Tigers coach Erin Koonz said. “Norah Prizzi and Kailey Cook had strong defensive efforts for the Tigers as well.”

Kingston put up nine shots on goal and 11 corners.

“We played well today but we have a few more things to tighten up for next week,” Pine Plains/ Rhinebeck Coach Deborah Beam said.

Kara Houston made two saves for the Tigers, while Mannio Kai had seven for the Bombers.

Taconic Hills 6, Ellenville 0

At Craryville, Amelia Canetto scored three goals as the Titans (11-2, 8-2), powered by aggressive play in the circle, cruised to to a 6-0 victory over the Devils.

Kirstin Shumsky scored off an Abby Tkacy assist with 26 minutes to play in the first to give Tac Hills a 1-0 lead.

Tkacy later knocked one in off a feed from Sage Pulver with 19 minutes left to make it 2-0.

Canetto’s first goal of the evening came off a Tanner VanAlstyne assist with 11 minutes remaining in the first.

Canetto later scored two goals within one minute in the early stages of the second half, the first coming off a feed from Amara Wright and the second off a feed from Sage Pulver to make it 5-0.

Fed the ball by Shumsky, Pulver knocked one in with 20 minutes left in regulation to round out the scoring.

The Titans led 33-11 in shots and 12-5 in penalty corners.

Sydney Kiernan recorded 11 saves for Tac Hills.
