Two face charges in fentanyl-heroin case
Two people have been arrested following an investigation into the alleged sale of fentanyl-laced heroin in the village and surrounding area, according to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said Matthew J. Deas and Erika C. Casiano, both 30 and both of Ellenville, were arrested early Wednesday morning following a “longterm” investigation of the alleged drug sales. Both were charged with the felonies of possession of a controlled substance (two counts each) and the misdemeanors of criminal use of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child.
The arrests, by members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team (URGENT), followed the execution of a search warrant at 9 Warren St. in the village at about 1 a.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office said. Heroin, fentanyl and packaging materials were seized.
Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Abram Markiewicz said Deas and Casiano were in possession of just over 7 grams of pure fentanyl.

Deas and Casiano were arraigned in Ellenville Village Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail — Deas in lieu of $50,000 bail, Casiano in lieu of $10,000 bail.
