Patrick Mahomes was back in the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice facility Monday, going through some extensive pool therapy and other rehabilitation exercises on his injured right knee.
That alone was a good sign for the reigning league MVP.
Mahomes dislocated the patella in the knee while sneaking for a first down in last week’s win in Denver. But what initially looked to be a rather serious injury is appearing less severe by the day, particularly after an Xray taken at the stadium and an MRI taken Friday came back negative.
“That turned out as good as we could possibly imagine,” Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder said as the team returned from a few days off. “He’s worked out here all weekend and is progressing nicely.”
Tiger Woods is returning from another surgical procedure on his left knee — his fifth on the same problem spot.
Woods, who had arthroscopic surgery two months ago, plays the made-for-television “The Challenge: Japan Skins” event on Monday, and the Zozo Championship beginning on Thursday — the first full PGA Tour event in Japan.
Woods will play with Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, and Hideki Matsuyama in the skins game at the Narashino Country Club, the same venue for Zozo Championship. The course is located about 50 kilometers (30 miles) northeast of central Tokyo.
The course for next year’s Olympics is located nearby at the Kasumigaseki Country Club.
Woods said the knee troubled him all season, becoming more bothersome after he won the Masters in April.
Pittsburgh Steelers backup linebacker Anthony Chickillo is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after being arrested early Sunday.
According to court documents, Chickillo was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police and charged with simple assault, property damage and harassment. The 26-yearold was released on $10,000 unsecured bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30.
Team spokesman Burt Lauten said the team is aware of the incident and is still gathering information. Chickillo, a five-year veteran, has one tackle and half a sack in three games for the Steelers this season, playing primarily on special teams.
The Steelers did not play this week. The players were given the weekend off by the team. Pittsburgh is scheduled to return to practice on Monday. The Steelers (2-4) host winless Miami on Oct. 28.
