FDR, Mount dominate at MHAL meet

FDR’s girls and the Mount Academy boys dominated the MHAL cross country championsh­ip meet at SUNY Ulster Thursday.

STONE RIDGE, N.Y. >> Roosevelt High’s girls and the Mount Academy boys dominated the Mid-Hudson Athletic League cross country championsh­ip meet at SUNY Ulster Thursday.

Sarah Trainor led Roosevelt, winning the league title for the fourth consecutiv­e year, running the 3.1mile course in 20:13 and beating Rondout Valley’s Bryce Hopper by 15 seconds. The Presidents beat the Ganders 33-80 and claimed three of the top five individual spots to capture the team championsh­ip. Lindsay Holland was fourth (20:35) and Alexandria North (20:38) fifth.

Mount Academy easily won the boys team title in its first year in the league. The Eagles had all seven of their runners finish in the top nine to win. They totaled 19 points to runner-up New Paltz’s 55.

Mount’s Travis Meier won the race in 16:15, followed by teammates Fred Goodwin (second, 16:19), Ike Blough (third, 16:19), Nathan Goodwin (sixth, 16:37), Tristan Moody (seventh, 16:49), Kent Kleinsasse­r (eighth, 16:51) and Stuart Fischli (ninth, 16:53).

All teams are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 6, for the Section 9 championsh­ips at Bear Mountain State Park.
