Pine Plains wins, advances to 8-man semis

Bombers clinch spot with 43-18 triumph over Sullivan West; Red Hook holds off O’Neill

PINE PLAINS, N.Y. >> Pine Plains High earned a spot in the Section 9 8-man football semifinals after rolling to a 43-18 first-round victory over Sullivan West on Saturday.

Pine Plains/Rhinebeck plays at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Roosevelt, playing either Ellenville or Fallsburg.

Sebastian Burmester led the Bombers, passing for 160 yards and three touchdowns. He had TD throws of 89 and 15 yards to Calab McCaul, plus a 56-yarder to Luke Imperato. Burmester also ran for a pair of 2-point conversion­s.

Pine Plains also scored on McCaul’s 73-yard kickoff return, Imperato’s 79-yard run and on Kyle Stracher’s 38-yard burst. Imperato also had a pair of successful 2-point conversion­s.

Andrew Speedling made 13 tackles, Devon Hurst had 10, Stracher eight and McCaul six to lead the defense. Tristan Riccobono had a fumble recovery.

The Bombers improved their record to 7-1, while Sullivan West fell to 2-5.

Dobbs Ferry 19, Rondout 14

At Kyserike, Dobbs Ferry rallied from a 14-0 deficit to win this non-league meeting.

Dobbs (4-3) will play host to Woodlands in next week’s Section 1, Class C semifinals.

Rondout (2-6) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter as Jimmy Brush scored on an 11-yard run and Carter Cafiero threw a 19-yard pass to Sam Serrano.

Dobbs shut out the Ganders the rest of the way and scored in each of the next three quarters. Thomas Ritch’s 49-yard fourth-quarter TD run was the gamewinner.

Red Hook 20, O’Neill 14

At Red Hook, the Raiders (2-6) won their second game of the year as Kyle Wahlquist ran for two touchdowns to lead the way. His 1-yard run tied it at 7-7 early in the second half.

James I. O’Neill cut it to 20-14 with 1:46 remaining, but Red Hook ran out the clock to seal the win.
