New Paltz wins to earn spot in sectional semis

New Paltz will take on defending state champion Cornwall in the Section 9, Class A semifinals after a 43-13win over Wallkill.

New Paltz High has a date with top-seeded Cornwall in the Section 9, Class A semifinals after rolling to a 4313 win over Wallkill Friday night.

The Huguenots, now 4-4 overall, plays the defending state champion Raiders Friday night at either Dietz Stadium in Kingston or Faller Field in Middletown.

Julien Higgs and Anthony DiMarco combined to run for 336 yards and six touchdowns on just 22 carries to lead New Paltz. Higgs had 221 yards on 10 attempts and DiMarco 105 on 12 rushes. Both scored three TDs.

Jorden Cook raced for 77 yards on three attempts for New Paltz.

DiMarco made 12 tackles, Jacob Schwarz had 11 tackles plus two sacks and Aidan Hoffman made an intercepti­on to lead the defense.

Wallkill is 4-4 and will play a crossover game next week.

Marlboro 28, Port Jervis 20

At Port Jervis, Marlboro turned in one of its best performanc­es of the year to defeat the Raiders for the Class B, Division 1 title.

The Dukes, bidding for a eighth section crown in nine years, advances to the B semifinals next Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2, at either Dietz Stadium or Faller Field.

Elijah Williams ran for 181 yards, including TDs of 8 and 15

yards in the fourth quarter to put the Dukes (6-2) up 28-13.

Christian Diorio ran for 121 yards and completed seven passes for 111 yards and two TDs for Marlboro.

Port Jervis cashed in a high snap on a punt with a

Colby Elston 8-yard TD run to get within 8-6 midway through the third quarter.

Dioro’s 48-yard TD to Jaden Rios had Marlboro up 15-6 at halftime, but Brett Fuller closed the gap again to 15-13 on a 4-yard pass to Rob Filancia.

Connor Ramos and Gio Frisenda each had six tackles and a sack and Armani Banton intercepte­d a pass to lead the Duke defense.

Valley Central 21, Saugerties 8

At Saugerties, the Class A Sawyers slipped to 2-6 on the year with the crossover loss to Class A Valley Central

(3-5).

Both teams close out the season next week with another crossover contest.
