Public hearing Monday on proposed 2020 budget
RED HOOK, N.Y. >> Town Board members will have a public hearing Monday, Oct. 28, on a proposed $4.21 million budget for 2020 that carries a 4.3 percent increase of $173,355.
The session will start at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall at 7340 South Broadway.
Under the spending plan, there will be a $2.32 million property tax levy, representing a 0.83 percent increase of $19,198. Officials report the budget will be $143,821 under the state tax levy limit, which includes the amounts levied for special districts.
Salaries in the budget include 2 percent increases for elected positions. Pay for will be supervisor at $31,310, for a $614 increase; each of four Town Board members at $8,790.25, for a $172.25 increase; clerk at $56,515, for a $1,108 increase; two justices at $18,076, for a $354.50 increase; and highway superintendent at $66,373, for a $1,301 increase.
Changes in the budget include:
• Sales tax revenues at $515,000, for an 11.96 percent increase of $55,000.
• Bond payments at $469,099, for an 11.31 percent decrease of $59,817.
• Hospital and medical insurance at $278,740, for a 2.85 percent increase of $7,737.
• Snow remove wages at $256,062, for a 66.81 percent increase of $102,553.
• Mortgage tax revenues
at $200,000, for a 5.26 percent increase of $10,000.
• State retirement expenses of $134,000, for an 11.67 percent increase of $14,000.
• Highway brush control
pay at $155,103, for a 216.21 percent increase of $106,053.
• Police coverage at $80,000, for an 11.11 percent increase of $8,000.
• Revenue from fines and forfeited bail at $43,000, for a 22.86 percent increase of $8,000.
• Road repair wages at $8,578 for a 95.92 percent decrease of $201,638.
