CSX refurbishing railroad crossings in town
TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. >>
CSX will be refurbishing railroad crossings on Old Neighborhood Road, Katrine Lane and Eastern Parkway/Glenerie Boulevard over the next couple of weeks, according to the town of Ulster Highway Department.
During that period, motorists will use temporary crossings with crushed stone, but temporary closures of crossings will be required to install the new permanent crossings, Ulster Highway Superintendent Frank C. Petramale said in a Facebook post.
Petramale said on Sunday, Oct. 27, that CSX maintenance crews closed the Old Neighborhood Road crossing during overnight hours, installed stone and temporarily re-opened the crossing to traffic.
He noted that the crossing will have to be closed at some point in the near future for CSX to install a permanent crossing.
On Katrine Lane, crews planned to close and remove the existing crossing at 6 p.m. Sunday and install a temporary stone crossing before reopening it to traffic, Petramale said.
Like the crossing on Neighborhood Road, it will need to be closed again at a future date to allow CSX to install the permanent crossing, he said.
Petramale said he wasn’t sure when the permanent crossings will installed.
He said CSX does not plan to work on the Eastern Parkway/Glenerie Boulevard crossing until around Saturday, Nov. 2.
Petramale said he’ll provide updates as he gets more information from CSX.
