Ellenville rallies to gain 8-man semis berth

Ellenville High will square off against Pine Plains for a spot in the Section 9 football 8-man finals after a big second half propelled the Blue Devils to a quarterfin­al win over Fallsburg Saturday night.

Down 24-16 at halftime, Ellenville scored 32 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 48-24 triumph.

Ellenville (5-2) will take on Pine Plains/Rhinebeck (7-1) in the semifinals 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Roosevelt.

Casimiro Pomales ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns and Sean Pettway carried 15 times for 154 yards and one score to lead the Devils. David McCombs had a 4-yard TD run for Ellenville.

Fallsburg, which had lost 6040 to Ellenville last month, hung tough through the first half and had the lead at the intermissi­on. Quarterbac­k Athan Zeno had TD runs of 1 and 3 yards to tie at 8-8 and 16-16.

Pomales got his second touchdown on a 9-yard burst two minutes into the second half. He then ran for the 2-point conversion to tie at 24-24. The Devils scored four more TDs to pull away.

Onteora 26, Roscoe 19

At Boiceville, Owen Allison threw for 271 yards and touchdowns to four different receivers to lead Onteora (3-4).

to Nick Ross, Anthony Umhey, Alex Smith and Irwin Walden. Ross’ TD reception was 70 yards. Umhey caught three passes for 85 yards.

Pat Ross made eight tackles, Nick Ross and Patrick Fitzgerald each had seven, Michael Ryan and Shane Bresler had six apiece, Ngo’e Crossan had fumble recovery and Umhey an intercepti­on for the Eagles.
