Ellenville, Rondout, Highland prevail; Kingston falls
Katherine Lopez scored midway through the first overtime period to lift Ellenville to a 2-1 victory over John S. Burke Catholic in Monday’s Section 9, Class B girls soccer quarterfinals.
The Devils (10-6) play at top-seeded James I. O’Neill in Wednesday’s semifinals.
Victoria Harrison had Burke up early on a 40-yard blast off a Kathryn Scully pass that goalkeeper Adriana Anderson mishandled.
Ellenville didn’t tie things up until Sydney Franza took Jessica McHugh’s pass, beat two defenders and planted a shot into the low far post a minute into the second half.
The score remained deadlocked until Isabela Castro set up Lopez with the 20-yard blast over the goalie’s head.
Anderson had nine saves for Devils, while Burke keeper Anna
Fajardo made 19.
Rondout 3, Onteora 0
At Kyserike, Brianna Kruchowy scored twice and Kendra Rubino had one goal to lead Rondout Valley. Lena Frumenti, Kayla Oakes and Maddie Malak
assisted.
With Highland upsetting Liberty, the Ganders will host a Class B semifinal match 2 p.m. Wednesday against the Huskies.
Monroe-Woodbury 4, Kingston 0
At Central Valley, Defending state champion Monroe-Woodbury ended Kingston’s exceptional season
in a Class AA semifinal match. The Crusaders will vie for a seventh consecutive section crown against Valley Central 4 p.m. Thursday at Middletown.
Kingston finishes the year with an 8-8 record.
Highland 6, Liberty 3
At Liberty, seventhseeded Highland upended No. 2 Liberty in the Class B quarterfinals.
Millbrook 1, Rhinebeck 0
At Rhinebeck, Millbrook converted a penalty kick eight minutes into the second half for the deciding goal in a semifinal match.
The Blazers aim for a third straight Class C championship 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against S.S. Seward at Goshen.
