Onteora, Taconic Hills advance to Class C finals

It will be Onteora versus Taconic Hills for the Section 9, Class C field hockey championsh­ip Wednesday as both teams advanced via semifinal wins Monday.

Onteora edged Pine Plains/ Rhinebeck 2-1 in overtime, while Taconic blanked Ellenville 5-0. The teams play for the championsh­ip 2 p.m. Wednesday. Taconic defeated Onteora last year for its first sectional title. Onteora is looking for its first championsh­ip in 22 years.

It will be the first match of a triplehead­er. The Class A final between Kingston and Pine Bush is at 4 p.m, followed by Rondout Valley and Red Hook for the B crown at 6.

Onteora 2, Pine Plains 1

The Eagles clinched a spot in the title game thanks to Corey Chun’s overtime winner.

Chun’s goal came seven minutes into the extra period when she converted on a breakaway opportunit­y, beating Pine Plains goaltender Kai Mannino with a perfectly-placed shot to the corner.

Pine Plains got on the board first in the early going on a goal from Kaitlyn Weise off an assist from Bella Torre.

Onteora tied things up in the second half when Eva Leonard scored off a feed from Sarah Jones.

The Bombers outshot the Eagles in the game 19-6.

Onteora’s Alana Wood made

10 saves, while Mannino made two stops for Pine Plains.

Taconic Hills 5, Ellenville 0

Amelia Canetto had a hat trick, Delana Bonci had a goal and two assists, Sage Pulver added a goal and one assist, and Kirsten Shumsky had an assist for the Titans (13-3).

“Our corners were executed very well tonight. Our offense just connected beautifull­y, scoring three goals on corners,” said Taconic Hills coach Angela Webster, whose team had 13 penalty corners. “It was great to see their hard work pay off. Overall, I was very pleased with our level of intensity and speed to the ball.”

Sydney Kiernan made three saves to post the shutout in goal. Ellenville goalkeeper Lauren Franza had nine saves.
