Heavy rain has washed out the opening round of the Mayakoba Golf Classic until Friday.

El Camaleon Golf Club has received nearly 9 inches of rain since Monday. The lead rules official at the tournament, Slugger White, says there has been so much rain that the course isn’t draining. More scattered storms were expected later in the day, so officials decided not to start the tournament Thursday.

The forecast isn’t much better for Friday.

The Mayakoba Golf Classic is the penultimate PGA Tour event this year. White says tour officials have not ruled out trying to complete 72 holes, even if that means going into Monday. The final tournament next week is at Sea Island on the southeastern Georgia coast.

Jordan Taylor is leaving his father’s sports car team to become a factory driver for Corvette Racing in 2020.

Taylor will pair with Antonio Garcia in the new Chevrolet Corvette C8.R in IMSA’s GT Le Mans category. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner will be in the second Corvette entry for the ninth consecutive season, making them the longest-running current driver pairing in IMSA.

Taylor has won 21 races and two championships in IMSA and has been a Corvette driver before. He was part of the team’s endurance lineup from 2012 to 2017 and part of the winning 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015. His team finished second at Sebring and Petit Le Mans in 2012.

His championships came with Wayne Taylor Racing, the team owned by his father.

Tennessee has signed three top-40 prospects to produce a recruiting class ranked fourth nationally.

The Volunteers have added 6-foot-5 guards Keon Johnson and Jaden Springer as well as 6-6 forward Corey Walker.

Springer is the nation’s No. 16 overall prospect in his class according to composite rankings of recruiting sites compiled by 247Sports. Johnson is ranked 23rd and Walker is 36th.

Johnson is from Shelbyville, Tennessee, and attends The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. Springer is from Charlotte, North Carolina, and attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Walker is from Hastings, Florida, and attends Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.

Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky are the only schools with higher-ranked recruiting classes.
