‘Expedition Unknown’ host Gates tells tales at UPAC
Join Josh Gates, host of the Discovery Channel series “Expedition Unknown,” as he shares his deep-rooted passion for adventure at the Ulster Performing Arts Center, 601 Broadway, Kingston on Friday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m.
That passion has taken Gates to the farthest corners of the world, a Bardavon release about his performance said. On “Expedition Unknown,” he travels the world to discover the truth beyond legends and archeological mysteries, the release added.
Gates is an avid scuba diver and photographer and has traveled to more than 100 countries, from African deserts to Antarctica. He’s taken part in sub-sea archaeological excavations in the Mediterranean, has scaled “the roof of Africa” on Mount Kilimanjaro and climbed Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the Americas. A mysterious “Yeti” footprint recovered by Gates in the Himalayas is now displayed at the “Expedition Everest” attraction at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida.
Gates also hosts Travel Channel’s “Legendary Locations,” where he shares tales and secrets of some of the most storied places on earth while focusing on the ancient and legends that made them famous, the release said.
Gates holds a degree from Tufts University in archaeology, is a member of The Explorers Club — an organization dedicated to the advancement of exploration and field research — and serves as a trustee on the governing board of the Archaeological Institute of America. He’s appeared on the “TODAY Show,” CNN and a variety of other national television and radio programs. Gates’ adventures are chronicled in the 2011 book “Destination Truth: Memoirs of a MonsterHunter.”
