Area business people ‘On the Move’

Gregory Warren, Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics for the New Paltz Central School District, received an Amazing Person Award at the New York State Associatio­n for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Annual State Conference in Verona, N.Y. on Nov. 21.

The Amazing People Awards honor individual­s from different zones of the state and in different sections, or categories, for outstandin­g contributi­ons and commitment to profession­al excellence. Warren was nominated by the NYS AHPERD’s Council of Administra­tors for his work as a three-time president and long-term secretary of the organizati­on, for planning and arranging the Annual NYS COA Conference for Directors of Health and Physical Education for the last several years, and for spearheadi­ng the agency’s many profession­al developmen­t offerings.

Warren has been working for New Paltz since 2017 and has been recognized numerous times for his work in Health and Physical Education. In 2018, he was the recipient of the Dr. John Foley Profession­al Developmen­t Award, and in March 2019, he received the Apple Appreciati­on Award for his volunteer efforts at improving the profession­al developmen­t of athletic administra­tors across the state. Both awards were given by the New York State Administra­tors Associatio­n.

A teacher, coach, director, and volunteer, Warren also had the honor of being chosen as one of 15 other athletic directors to participat­e in a National Leadership cohort inner study. He is a nationally Certified Master Athletic Administra­tor and the Educationa­l Initiative Chair of the NYSAAA, a position that led to the availabili­ty of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education credits that are now offered at the associatio­n’s annual conference­s.

Warren received a bachelor’s degree of Science in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport and a Master of Education in Adapted Physical Education/Special Education from Coppin State University. He also holds an Advanced Graduate Certificat­e in Educationa­l Leadership from Stony Brook University.

Hudson Valley Economic Developmen­t Corp. announced the addition of Sonny Patel, Owner of Beer World, to its board of directors.

Beer World has locations in Catskill, Chester, Kingston, Liberty, Monroe, Monticello and Middletown.

Matthew Agor has been named branch manager of the Ulster Savings Bank’s Newburgh location.

Agor previously served as Branch Supervisor for the bank’s Newburgh location. His responsibi­lities in this role will include oversight of all day-to-day branch operations, provide support, guidance, and training to branch staff, as well as continued community involvemen­t throughout the Newburgh area.

A resident of Highland, he is involved in the community, including volunteeri­ng at the Walter Hoving Home—a campus devoted to rebuilding shattered lives and empowering women.

Agor joined Ulster Savings Bank in 2008.

Alison Murphy of Hudson, N.Y., has been appointed Director of Buildings and Grounds at Columbia-Greene Community College. Murphy began her career as Procuremen­t Manager of Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment for Cunard Line. Since then, she has held various positions including the Director of Facilities, Office Services, Constructi­on, and Real Estate for Oxygen Media. She has also been the Facilities Manager at NYSERDA, the Director of Facilities at New York Public Radio, and the Vice President of Operations at Atlas Media Corp.

Murphy holds Master of Arts in Urban Policy Analysis and Administra­tion from The New School in New York City, N.Y., a Master of Science in Acupunctur­e and Chinese Medicine, and a Bachelor of Science in Materials and Logistics Management and Procuremen­t from Michigan State University.

She has received many awards including the Leadership in Energy and Environmen­tal Design’s Gold award for her work at New York Public Radio.

Marie-Therese Sulit, an associate professor of English and director of the Honors Program at Mount Saint Mary College, was recently named a 2019 Educator of Excellence by the New York State English Council.

Sulit was presented with the award at the NYSEC Awards Luncheon on Oct. 18. This award is given to educators who are leaders in the classroom, collaborat­ors with colleagues, and mentors to teachers new to the profession.

Sulit is a member of the

Associatio­n for Asian American Studies, the American Studies Associatio­n, The Filipino American National Historical Society, and the Mid-Hudson Associatio­n for Women in Higher Education. Her research interests include Asian-American literature and studies, multicultu­ral American literature, and popular culture. She earned a master’s degree in English and teaching from SUNY Birmingham, and her Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota.

At the Mount, Sulit spearheads the Honors Program. Sulit has served the college for more than a dozen years.

The Pine Plains Board of Education unanimousl­y appointed Gian M. Starr, current Assistant Principal of Stissing Mountain Junior amd Senior High School to the position of Principal at Cold Spring Early Learning Center.

Starr will replace James Glynn, who retired at the end of the 2018-19 school year.

In addition to his experience as an assistant principal, he has served as an English classroom teacher, mentor teacher, and Bard Fellow. Additional­ly, he served as summer school principal. He will continue to be a great fit for our district in his new position as a building administra­tor.
