- Freeman staff

The Rhinebeck boys held off S.S. Seward 45-43 in the James A. Kyle Memorial Basketball Tournament at Bard College Saturday.

The Eagles tried to inbound the ball with five seconds left, but Seward was able to tie up the dribbler and force a turnover off a jump ball. Seward had the ball with 3.9 remaining on the clock, but a game-winning 3-point bid hit the back of the rim.

“We defended and rebounded well to win,” said Rhinebeck coach Dave Aierstok, whose team overcame committing six turnovers and managing just three points in the fourth quarter.

Aiden Aierstok (16 points, six rebounds), Brendan Hines (14 points, eight rebounds) and Ben Fajardo (eight points, seven rebounds) led the way for Rhinebeck.

Daryll Walker’s 15 points paced Seward.

Rhinebeck, now 2-3 overall, hits the winter break and resumes play on Jan. 3 with a home game against Onteora.

Red Hook 57, Millbrook 48

At Annandale, Red Hook won its third straight game as it fended

off a furious Millbrook rally in the fourth quarter at the Kyle Tournament.

Luke Crittenden, who scored eight points in the quarter, scored on a natural three-point play with a minute left to secure the win for Red Hook (3-1). Crittenden finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

The Raiders took control in the middle quarters, outscoring Millbrook 3316. Zach Monarchi scored 10 of his 14 points in the first half and Dylan Bayliss hit for 14 of his 16 in the second half to lead Red Hook. Bayliss also had four steals, while Monarchi notched nine rebounds and two blocks. Brandon Cahill chipped in with 10 points.

Red Hook forced 20 turnovers. Brendan Donohue and Brady Wade held Millbrook’s top scorer, Liam Flaherty, to 11 points. David King had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Nick Deangelo buried three 3’s in the fourth for the Blazers.

The Raiders resume play on Jan. 3 with a non-league game at John S. Burke Catholic.
