Acura’s limited edition brings unlimited fun

- By Marc Grasso Boton Herald

Having owned many models from Acura, the upscale line from American Honda Motor Co. — has made it a personal favorite. Acura delivers in so many ways.

Acura now delivers a really rare beauty: the TLX. It’s a combination of their past TL and TSX models, both superb automobiles that hold their value tremendously. But this one isn’t any normal TLX, it’s a PMC edition. (OK, too many letters and acronyms, I get it, so right to the point.)

Let’s start over. The traditional Acura NSX is its monster two-seat super-car that competes with the Audi R8 and other mid-engine (with the engine placed between the rear and front axles) dream machine sports cars.

OK, well, the Acura TLX PMC Edition is a four-door sedan that was hand-built in the same plant as the NSX in Ohio! Do I have your attention now? Bingo!

The Acura TLX PMC Edition is outstanding. The PMC — meaning Performance Manufacturing Center — is in Marysville, Ohio. Only 360 Acura TLX PMCs will be made. The PMC edition is a combination of Acura’s normal Advance and A-Spec, both toptier packages. One difference besides the package options is the rare, exquisite paint only to be found on the NSX. The PMC paint has a curing process of more than four days. Assembly workers also complete advanced quality control checks like with the NSX, including dyno-testing, off-road simulations and engine/transmission leak checks.

Yes, a little drool was demonstrated while driving this gem.

A perfect pair with the 3.5-liter V6 engine and nine-speed transmission delivering 290 horsepower and 267 lb.-ft. of torque is just right for Acura’s midsize sedan. The Super Handling-All Wheel Drive is great as usual and does the job when experiencing challenging road conditions.

Acura, known for marketing to adults under 35 with families who want just a little more pep in their step, knows what it’s doing with the TLX PMC. Acura strives to market to a limited segment of adults who enjoy performance and style while recognizing three things must align prior to a buyer being hooked: It has to look good, drive great and be priced correctly. Check, check, check!

What will be next, the RDX or MDX with a PMC edition? Who knows, but we can’t wait!
