Bindlestiff Family Cirkus makes life a Cabaret
The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus’ Winter Cabaret, celebrating its 25th anniversary, returns to Club Helsinki Hudson on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 9 p.m.
According to a release, Bindlestiff specializes in bringing together the best in circus, sideshow, vaudeville, burlesque and variety. Originally based in New York City, Bindlestiff brought this stage spectacle to Hudson in 2006. That first year, the grpup performed at Basilica Industria. Since then, Club Helsinki has been its home.
Each month this winter, the Cirkus will feature a new lineup of variety arts stars performing acts like trapeze, contortion, acrobatic balance, sword swallowing, juggling, physical comedy and oddball novelty turns.
Guests can expect to see internationall renowned street performers, acts from Cirque du Soleil, former Ringling Bros. performers, artists from “America’s Got Talent” and local legends live on stage, the release said. Bindlestiff’s Cabaret shows feature a live musical score of original tunes performed by New York City’s best composers and accompanists, the release added.
Bindlestiff’s style brings together New York City’s underground club scene, nods to political street theater, and respect for the traditions of American popular entertainment and illegitimate theater, according to the release.
The audience is encourage to dress for festival and be part of the glamour of the evening. Those in costume or circusy makeup can ask for a discounted ticket at the door.
“Perhaps you’ve got some top boots and a tailcoat in the closet? Or a corset and tutu you’ve been dying to wear? A cotton-candy-floss wig and sparkly eyelashes? Dig them out, put them on, and be part of the spectacle,” the release said.
This show is for adults 21 and older only. A family show matinee will be offered on Sunday, March 22.
