City police detectives continue to work long hours in their effort to solve two fatal shootings that occurred in Midtown last fall, a department official said Tuesday.

“We’re determined . ... We’re not letting this go,” Detective Lt. Thierry Croizer said. “These two need to get solved.”

The killings happened just over a week apart and only about half a mile from each other, but police have said they don’t believe the cases are linked.

Daniel Thomas, 27, was shot to death on Oct. 24, 2019, near the intersection of Cedar and Prospect streets. Myron T. Moye, 36, was killed Nov. 1 in the house at 38 W. O’Reilly St.

Police are also still are working to solve a nonfatal shooting that occurred on Franklin Street in Midtown on Dec. 29.

Croizer and Police Chief Egidio Tinti said Tuesday that their efforts to solve the shootings have not lost steam.

“It’s taking some time, no doubt about it,” Tinti said of the homicide investigations. “There’s a lot to sort through and sift through.”

Early on in the homicide investigations, Croizer expressed frustration over the lack of cooperation from members of the community. But on Tuesday, he said there has been some improvement.

Still, he said, “we suspect there’s someone out there that knows something and doesn’t want to talk to us. We can’t force them to. They can claim, ‘I don’t know anything.’”

Police have not released a description of a suspect or suspects in Thomas’ death. In the Moye case, police said early on that they were looking for three men.

The male victim of the Dec. 29 shooting on Franklin Street was from out of town, Croizer said Tuesday. Police have not identified him but said he suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police also have not said where in his body the man was stuck, but Croizer said Tuesday that he no longer is hospitalized.

Croizer said Tuesday the victim initially declined to give police his name or any information that could lead to an arrest, though “eventually, we believe we got a name [of the victim] that we believe is correct.

The Franklin Street shooting appeared to have occurred between Pine and Oak streets.
