Shots fired in Midtown; no injuries, no arrests
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> City police are investigating the firing of three gunshots toward a group of people standing near a car parked behind 579 Broadway in Midtown, a police department official said Monday.
Police responded at 2:55 p.m. Sunday to a report of shots fired in the area of 575-579 Broadway, near the corner of Cedar Street. No one was struck, but the three bullets hit the building, said Kingston Police Detective Lt. Thierry Croizer.
The suspected shooter was described only as wearing a black hoodie and black pants and seen running through the parking lot of the former Mid-City Lanes bowling alley on Cedar Street, toward Greenkill Avenue, police said.
During the course of the investigation, Croizer said, three witnesses were briefly taken into custody while investigators looked into whether they might have been responsible for the shots fired. They ultimately were cleared and released, he said.
A vehicle was impounded as part of the investigation, as well, but it was “immediately released,” Croizer said.
Sunday’s incident happened just three blocks from the scene of a fatal shooting, at Cedar and Prospect streets, on Oct. 24, 2019. That case remains unsolved, as do a fatal shooting on West O’Reilly Street in Midtown on Nov. 1, 2019, and a nonfatal shooting on Franklin Street in Midtown on Dec. 29, 2019.
