FDR, Millbrook to battle for MHAL title

Roosevelt and Millbrook both earned spots in the MHAL girls basketball championsh­ip game after wins on Monday.

STONE RIDGE, N.Y. » It will be Millbrook going against defending champion Roosevelt Thursday night for the Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls basketball title.

Both teams advanced to the 7 p.m. final at SUNY Ulster via dominant semifinal wins Monday. Roosevelt downed Marlboro 6524, while Millbrook handled Onteora 61-29.

Roosevelt 65, Marlboro 24

The Presidents, up six after one quarter, blew the game open with a 19-0 second quarter. Sophomore Maia Stewart led the way with 15 of her game-high 18 points in that period.

Jae’Len Daubon added 12 points for Roosevelt.

Erin Lofaro had nine points to pace Marlboro, which played without Elizabeth Lofaro.

Millbrook 61, Onteora 29

Millbrook was without Erin Fox when the Blazers edged Onteora in an early-season game. Fox, fully recovered from a torn ACL, scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the first half as Millbrook jumped out to a 36-12 halftime advantage and never looked back.

Freshman Natalie Fox tossed in 14 points for the Blazers.

Monroe Maki paced Onteora with 14 points.

Rondout 43, Tri-Valley 39

At Kyserike, a balanced effort from Darrian Slater (10 points, 4 steals), Magnolia Flamhaft (10 points, seven rebounds, three steals), Bella Ruzzi (nine points, three steals), and Maddie Malak (eight points, nine rebounds) led Rondout Valley to a non-league victory.

Victoria Swelt had 11 points and Macy Shamro scored nine to pace TriValley.

Ellenville 65, Fallsburg 26

At Ellenville, Nicole Aguirre hit for 12 points while Sanaa Carter, Sophie Santiago and Jessica McHugh scored 10 apiece to lead the Devils in a non-league victory.

Essence Jackson’s 10 points led Fallsburg.
