Author of Janis Joplin biography will give reading
WHAT: Author reading WHEN: Saturday, March 7, from 5 to 6 p.m.
WHERE: Woodstock Library, 5 Library Lane, Woodstock
DETAILS: The Woodstock Library Forum will present author Holly George-Warren, who will read from her biography of Janis Joplin, “Janis: Her Life and Music.” The book has been longlisted for the 2020 Andrew Carnegie Medals for excellence. George-Warren is an awardwinning writer, two-time Grammy nominee, editor, producer and music consultant. Admission is free.

Silent Laurel & Hardy films at Rosendale Theatre
WHAT: Screening of silent Laurel & Hardy films
WHEN: Sunday, March 29, at 2 p.m.
WHERE: Rosendale Theatre, 408 Main St., Rosendale
DETAILS: As part of the theatre’s Sunday Silents series, a program of silent films starring the comedy duo of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy will be shown. The program will show some of the team’s best silent shorts: “Duck Soup,” “Second Hundred Years,” “Your Darn Tootin,” “Two Tars,” “Angora Love” and their best-known short from the silent era, “Big Business,” in which the duo start out spreading Christmas cheer, but end up sowing discord. “Big Business” was deemed culturally significant and was entered into the National Film Registry in 1992. All films will be accompanied by commentary by Ray Faiola, grand sheik of the local chapter of the Sons of the Desert, the international Laurel & Hardy Fan Club, as well as live accompaniment by Marta Waterman. Admission is $6.
