Mardi Gras celebration Saturday at Revel 32

-

The Soul Rebels and Hudson-based Brasskill headline a Mardi Gras celebration at the new Revel 32 venue at 32 Cannon St., Poughkeepsie, on Saturday, March 7, at 8 p.m.

The Soul Rebels started with the goal of expanding on the pop music they loved and the New Orleans brass tradition they grew up on, a Bardavon press release said.

They took that tradition and fused funk and soul with elements of hip hop, jazz and rock within a brass band context, the release added. Their eclectic live shows harness the power of horns and drums in what the release describes as a “deep pocket funk partylike atmosphere.”

The group has been featured in major films and has toured globally, performing songs that celebrate dancing, life, funk and soul.

Founded in the spring of 2018, Brasskill is the Hudson Valley’s party band, performing at parties, festivals and parades in the Hudson Valley and the surrounding area. According to the release, the group’s repertoire ranges from New Orleans second-line tunes to punk and pop covers, as well as Latin grooves.

Revel 32 is housed in a historic 1845 building that first served as a Methodist church and was later purchased and expanded in 1895 by the Masons. It features large stained-glass windows, a brick facade and wood floors.

Tickets are $25 in advance for generaal admission. They are $30 the night of the show. The venue features four full bars, Big Easy drink specials and Southern food from Essie’s Restaurant, a Poughkeepsie eatery. Limited $60 VIP Tickets feature an exclusive VIP early entry Big Easy cocktail party featuring Mardi Gras “party packs,” free Southern eats and prizes.

Tickets can be purchased in-person at the Bardavon box office or by calling (845) 473-2072.
