Columbia Memorial Health’s 10th Annual “Winter Blast” at Club Helsinki in Hudson on Saturday, Feb. 1, saw Winnie Thorn being presented with the Clara Kellner Award for public service.
The award recognizes individuals who continue Kellner’s legacy of volunteerism and philanthropy on behalf of Columbia Memorial Health and the greater community. The event also raised more than $110,000.
The program included proclamations honoring Thorn’s dedication from U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado, state Sen. Daphne Jordan, state Assemblymember Didi Barrett and state Assemblyman Chris Tague. The evening featured dinner, dancing, a silent auction and a performance by Thee Mr. E Band.
The award, along with a tribute book filled with letters and poems of appreciation, was presented to Thorn by Anne Schomaker, vice chair of the CMH Foundation Board; and CMH President

and CEO Jay Cahalan.
“There are few who have done more to help CMH than Winnie Thorn,” Schomaker said, according to a press release. “Her generosity and her love of community have made an indelible impact on CMH’s ability to care for the people of Columbia and Greene counties. She will always have our thanks and our deepest affection.”
Along with currently serving on the CMH Foundation Board of Trustees, Thorn has served as vice president of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She has also provided volunteer service to numerous organizations, including Columbia-Greene Community Hospice, Freinds of Olana, Columbia-Greene Community College, the Columbia County Council on the Arts and on the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church in Hudson.
Thorn has been the recipient of several American Cancer Society awards, including the Mary Holland Award for Outstanding Crusade Volunteer and Volunteer of the Decade from the society’s New York state division.
