RUPCO still plans April or May opening of E Square
There so far has been no change to RUPCO’s plan for its nearly completed Energy Square building in Midtown to open to tenants later this spring.
Asked about a possible delay due to the coronavirus outbreak and social-distancing guidelines, RUPCO spokeswoman Julee Whalen said: “We don’t have any changes at this time to report.”
RUPCO, a Kingstonbased affordable housing agency, said in February that all 56 apartments in the Cedar Street building had been leased and that tenants would be able to move in in April or May.
The five-story Energy
Square, or E Square, building, which stands on the site of a former bowling alley at 20 Cedar St., comprises 44 one-bedroom units, six two-bedroom units, four three-bedroom units and two studio apartments. Monthly rents are to range from $421 to $1,428, and the cost of heat, hot water and electricity is included.
Amenities in the building include Energy Star appliances, laundry machines on the premises, a community room with Wi-Fi service, a “green” rooftop area with an outdoor pavilion, on-site parking, and a livein superintendent, according to RUPCO.
RUPCO has said E Square will meet a “net-zero for living” standard that combines geothermal and solar power sources and other energy-efficient features.
The E Square building is on the 1.3-acre site of the former Mid-City Lanes Bowling alley, which closed in 2014 and was demolished in 2018. The estimated construction cost is $22.6 million.
