Infrastructure Improvements Project begins at Point
Work has begun on the Kingston Point Park Infrastructure Improvements Project, which includes parking lot upgrades and the creation of a youth soccer field at the park on Delaware Avenue, Mayor Steve Noble said this week.
The project will be completed in two phases, the mayor said in a press release. The first phase includes building a soccer field and parking lot on the north side of Delaware Avenue, near Kingston Point Beach. The new parking lot will serve as a connection point to the Empire State Trail.
The first phase, expected to be completed this year, also includes the preparation of a site for a new playground, new landscaping, tree planting, and bioswales for stormwater, the press release stated.
The second phase will involve turning half of the existing parking lot on the south side of Delaware Avenue into an official wet
land. The other half of that lot will be raised to prevent future flooding and will remain in use for parking.
“This project will allow more opportunity for physical activity and will help increase the overall quality of life in our city,” Noble said in a statement. “Kingston’s parks are truly an asset to our community, and these improvements will enhance one of our already wonderful
recreation areas.”
The project is being funded with a $300,000 grant from the state Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, along with a $100,000 matching investment from the city.
