Lakers’ Avery Bradley to sit out NBA’s restart in Florida
Los Angeles Lakers guard Avery Bradley has decided to sit out the NBA’s upcoming resumption of the season in Florida.
He told ESPN on Tuesday night that he wants to remain with his wife and three children, including a 6-year-old son with a history of respiratory illnesses.
By sitting out, Bradley figures to lose a projected $650,000 in salary.
Bradley averaged 8.6 points and 2.3 rebounds while starting 44 games before the season was shut down in March due to the coronavirus. The Lakers are the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference heading into the 22team restart.
“I can’t imagine making any decision that might put my family’s health and well-being at even the slightest risk,” Bradley told ESPN.

Arsenal defender David Luiz has agreed to a contract extension for the 2020-21 season, the Premier League club said Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Brazil center back joined Arsenal on a one-year contract from Chelsea last year.
“David is a really important player for us,” Arsenal technical director Edu said.
“He has played most of our matches this season and has been important for the team.
His passing, his communication with the team on and off the pitch. He helps everyone.”
Luiz, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the month, took the blame for a 3-0 loss to Manchester City on June 17 when the Premier League resumed following the coronavirus stoppage.
He gave away a penalty for taking down Riyad Mahrez and was sent off for it.
The Tampa Bay Rays have reached terms with first-round draft pick Nick Bitsko, giving the Pennsylvania high school pitcher a $3 million signing bonus.
The 18-year-old right-hander was the 24th overall selection this month after going 4-2 with a 1.27 ERA and 68 strikeouts in two seasons at Central Bucks East High.
Several months after announcing plans to graduate a year early, Bitsko’s final prep season was canceled this spring due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“We identified him last summer as an elite power starting pitching prospect,” Rays senior director of amateur scouting
Rob Metzler said.
