Instruction on, off campus planned for fall
A combination of onand off-campus instruction for the fall semester at SUNY Ulster will begin on Aug. 24 at both the Stone Ridge and Kingston Center campuses, according to college president Alan P. Roberts.
On campus classes at the college were moved online in mid-March in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
In a press release Friday, July 10, Roberts said SUNY Ulster’s “Reentry Plan,” was developed by the school’s “reentry task force.” He said it has been approved by the State University of New York (SUNY) and is posted on the college website at www.sunyulster.edu.
“All operations have been evaluated to ensure a safe return for students and staffAccording to the college website, the plan “is still subject to change due to new information, guidance, and/or direction from the state.”
The college will provide students with a combination of distance learning with on-campus labs, clinics and studio space, “blended hybrid courses” and fully online courses, according to a press release.
An updated course schedule will be available online in the coming weeks.
When classes resume, on-campus learning will be limited to courses that require “hands-on lab, clinical and practical components,” such as STEM, fashion design, nursing, veterinary technology, criminal justice and human services, police basic training, art, music, and continuing and professional education, according to the press release.
The school will follow social distancing and “reduced density protocols,” the release said.
Additionally, any planned fall 2020 in-person instruction will be prepared to switch back to remote learning, if needed.
The press release said the school is also prepared “to serve students who are required to undergo a 14day quarantine” for COVID-19.
All on-site employees, students, and visitors will be required to wear a face covering when social distancing cannot be consistently maintained and whenever they are walking in college facilities. Personal protective equipment, including disposable face masks and/ or face shields, will be provided, at no cost, at all health services check-in points, according to the college.
Additionally, “various screening tools will be deployed” and the school is evaluating “pre-entry screening tools,” including no-touch thermometers, which will be used to check temperatures daily for all on-site students, faculty, staff or visitors.
