Fire destroys house; no injuries reported
The structure on Marizi Lane was under construction and unoccupied when the blaze broke out.
A twostory home that was under construction on Marizi Lane was destroyed by a two-alarm fire, Woodstock Fire Chief Kevin Peters said Thursday.
Woodstock firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 30 Marizi Lane about 1:10 a.m. Wednesday and found a “well-involved” blaze believed to have been electrical in nature, possibly sparked by a heater, Peters said.
An official cause had yet to be determined, but the fire was considered accidental, the chief said.
The owners of the house, who live in Accord, were not present at the time, and no firefighters were injured, Peters said.
He said firefighters spent several hours extinguishing the blaze, which left the house “beyond fixable” and in need of being torn down. The roof was “burned through,” and the second floor and lower level sustained significant damage, Peters said.
“They were getting close [to finishing construction], everything was painted,” Peters said. “It was a hell of a loss for them.”
Firefighters left the scene about 4 a.m., according to a press release.
The Woodstock Fire Department
was assisted at the scene by the Centerville and West Hurley fire departments, the Ulster County Department of Emergency Services, the Ulster
County Fire Investigation Unit, the Woodstock Police Department, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.
