Dutchess reports another COVID-19 death this week

Dutchess County reported another death from COVID-19 on Thursday, the second this week, bringing the county’s total to 156.

Three residents of Ulster and Dutchess counties died of COVID-19 this week. The 95th Ulster County death and 155th Dutchess County death were both reported on Wednesday.

Until Wednesday, the last reported death from COVID in Ulster County had been in the third week of August. Dutchess’ last death attributed to the virus had been on Sept. 5.

According to the Dutchess County COVID-19 online dashboard, there are six residents currently hospitaliz­ed in the county.

In Ulster County, Assistant Deputy County Executive Dan Torres said there are currently two residents

with COVID-19 in hospitals. He said neither is in an intensive care unit.

On Tuesday, Ryan said the county’s hospital capacity was “more than adequate if we need it.”

On its online COVID-19 dashboard Thursday, Ulster County reported 135 active cases of COVID-19, up from 132 reported on Tuesday.

Dutchess County reported

online Thursday that, as of Tuesday, it had 107 active cases of the virus. Dutchess has had a total of 5,014 cases of the virus and reports 4,751 recoveries.

In a Facebook Live broadcast Thursday, Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan said 1,234 residents were tested for the virus in the prior 48 hour period and of those there were only seven new cases, an infection rate of 0.57%.

In the past 24 hours, he said 724 residents had been tested and the county received

three positive test results. He said the infection rate remains below 0.5%.

SUNY New Paltz reported one additional active case of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total of active cases to four. The school reported 13 cases among students who have

been on campus since the fall semester began Aug. 24, and four cases among students living in the county who have reported a positive test to the college.
