A woman who was tasered by police after wielding a knife was arrested again less than 24 hours later.

A Saugerties woman who was tased by town police after wielding a kitchen knife Saturday was arrested again less than 24 hours later on Sunday morning after violating a court order of protection, police said.

Saugerties was charged with criminal contempt of a court order, a felony, along with misdemeano­r charges stemming from Saturday’s incident: criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer, menacing, reckless endangerme­nt of property and attempted assault.

Saugerties Police, who had responded to a report of a domestic dispute at 5:21 p.m. Saturday, said Saquid was alleged to have broken several items in the home and bitten one person in the arm.

While police interviewe­d a complainan­t, authoritie­s said, Saquid ran to the kitchen and armed herself with a knife. As an officer tried to negotiate with her, Saquid raised the knife over her head in an act of aggression. A Saugerties police sergeant then used a taser on Saquid, incapacita­ting her long enough to disarm her and take her into custody.

Saquid was taken to HealthAlli­ance Hospital’s Broadway Campus in Kingston, N.Y., for substance abuse treatment and a mental health evaluation.

At 10:44 a.m. Sunday,

Saugerties Police responded to a call from one of the protected parties in the court order, saying that Saquid was back in the house. Officers arrested her on the multiple charges from the previous evening.

On August 11, 2020, Saquid had been charged with menacing and assault from an incident when she armed herself with a knife and threatened to kill a family member and then herself. On July 19, 2019, according to police, she was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon stemming from an incident where she had menaced a family member with a knife and a chainsaw. At the time of arrest, she pleaded with officers to kill her, police said.
