DeForest, Stoltz tie in Wiltwyck Pro-Am win

DeForest, of Twaaalfskill, and Stoltz, of Concord, share $4,500 top prize after each shoot 70

KINGSTON, N.Y. » Andrew DeForest, who won the YMCA/Wiltwyck Pro-Am golf tournament in 2019, will share the championship this year with John Stoltz after both shot 70s Monday in the 43rd annual event.

DeForest, a Twaalfskill member, and Stoltz, from the Concord, finished 2-under to split the $4,500 first-place check. Stoltz placed third in 2018.

Because of COVID-19, the tournament was not played as a fourperson scramble with shotgun start and no playoff to settle ties. DeForest beat Matt Dobyns on the first hole of a playoff for last year’s title.

Michael Ballo Jr., Dobyns and two-time champ Chris Ferraro were one stroke back at 71, tied for third. They each received $783.33.

Nick Dillio and Jeff Schaller posted 74s for sixth place, splitting $800. Chris Sanger, James Becker and Jesse Steele tied for eighth with 75 to earn $83.33 each.

DeForest’s foursome with Andy Occhi, Ed Maldonado and Steve Owens took the 2 best ball of 4 competition, sharing a $1,600 check. Steele’s team with Marc Palazzo, Mathew Simmons and Cody Broast was second. splitting $1,200.

DeForest, Becker, Dillio, Mike Caporale, Brad Gardner and David Powers each won $83 in the professional skins division.

Sean Howard had eagles on 1 and 18 to win $225.00 in net amateur skins. Sean McDonald and Dennis Larios each had one skin to take home $112.00

Luke Sullivan, Mike Groppuso, Justin Lane, McDonald and H. Gil each won $90 in gross amateur skins.

All proceeds of the event support the YMCA Strong Kids Scholarship fund.
