Shots fired report is fourth in a week

City police are investigat­ing yet another incident of shots being fired in Midtown, this time near Wiltwyck Avenue by Downs Street.

Police said at about 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, they received a report of gunshots. Officers checked the area and were unable to find evidence at the time.

On Monday, new evidence was developed indicating that two shots were fired in the area. Authoritie­s didn’t say what that evidence was or the type of gun that may have been used. There were no reported injuries in connection with the gunfire.

Sunday’s incident was the latest in a string of shots being fired in Midtown in recent days.

On Wednesday night, Sept. 30, police said shots were fired at an unoccupied parked car on Hunter Street near Ravine Street in the Rondout section of the city at about 10:50 p.m. Also on Wednesday, police received reports of a violent armed robbery and assault in the city.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, police received two separate reports of shots fired.

At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, police said a caller reported shots fired in front of 219 Downs

St. That incident was followed six hours later, at about 11:30 p.m. by a report of shots fired in the area of Franklin and St. James streets, police said.

As was the case with Sunday’s incident, there were no injuries reported in either incident Thursday or in the Wednesday night incident.

Wednesday’s incident was the first in the city after a lull of nearly two months and happened despite an increase in road patrols that include Kingston police, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and state police.
