Nuvance launches self-referring mammograms

- Freeman staff

Nuvance Health has launched a self-referral mammogram screening program at imaging centers at six locations, including in Kingston, Rhinebeck and Poughkeepsie.

The program means women who meet criteria can schedule a routine mammogram without a physician’s order. According to Nuvance, this improves access to the screenings and provides a convenient way for women to schedule a routine checkup.

The self- referral program will be available at the Nuvance Health Kingston Multispecialty Center and Urgent Care in the Hudson Valley Mall area in Lake Katrine, the Northern Dutchess Imaging Center in Rhinebeck, and the Dyson Breast Center in the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

The program is available for women who are age 40 and older, have not experienced symptoms of breast cancer, have no history of and do not have currently have breast cancer. The patient’s last mammogram was to be at least 12 months ago.

Results are sent directly to the patients by mail and are also available in the Nuvance Health patient portal, too. Results can also be direct to the patient’s consulting physician if requested. Nuvance Health will connect self-referring patients to a physician if they request one.

To schedule a mammogram screening, call (845) 790-8855 and press 1 for imaging, or visit nuvancehealth.org/ breastcare and select “Request an Appointment Online.” A scheduling specialist will then contact the patient by phone to confirm the appointment.

Women who don’t meet these criteria should speak with their physician. If the person does not have a physician, she can call (888) 525-4767 7 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays to be connected with a Nuvance Health Medical Practice physician.
