Sheriff’s Office probes fatal crashes in LaGrange, Amenia
Fatal crashes in LaGrange and Amenia are under i nvestigation in Dutchess County, the Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
In the first incident, on Saturday, Oct. 10, at about 2:50 p.m. on Overlook Road near Alvin Court in Lagrange, Nicholas Giguere, 37, of Poughkeepsie was westbound on Overlook Road riding a motorcycle when he lost control of the motorcycle on a curve and struck a guide rail, according to a press release.
Giguere was taken to
MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where he was later pronounced dead, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The primary contributing factor appears to be unsafe speed and failure to maintain lane, according to the press release.

On Monday, Oct. 12, at about 5:50 p.m., Matthew Hadley, 50, address not immediately available, died after losing control of the 2018 Jeep he was driving off road near the Benson Farm on Poplar Hill Road in Amenia, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Hadley, who was partially ejected, was declared dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators believe reckless driving in offroad conditions and driving without a seat belt were contributing factors in the fatality, according to a press release.
