NORFOLK, VA.- Edward G. Andreassen, son of Olaf and Agnes (Cavanaugh) Andreassen, passed away Dec. 6, 2020 at the age of 76, in Norfolk, Va. Ed was born Aug. 31, 1944 in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Andreassen family moved to Saugerties in 1949. Ed attended and graduated from St. Mary’s of the Snow and Saugerties High School. Ed was the eldest of eleven children: Tom (Joy) Andreassen, Margaret (Tom) Cragan, Larry Andreassen, Ray (Fran), Robert Andreassen, Paul (Claudia) Andreassen, Audrey (Kirk) Felton and Rick Andreassen. Ed was pre-deceased by his parents, Olaf and Agnes, and two sisters Claudia Balay and Ruth (Richard) Miles. Ed served honorably in the Navy during the Viet Nam era. Ed met and married Frances Kaye Custer while stationed in Jacksonvil­le Florida. They moved to Norfolk, Va., where they recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversar­y. Together they raised ve children: Valerie, Catherine (Jim) Schneider, Tommy, Jimmy, and Jon Paul Andreassen. Ed is survived by his family and many nieces, nephews, grandchild­ren, and great-grandchild­ren. At the end of Ed’s naval service he was employed as an HVAC specialist and foreman at the Norfolk Naval base. Ed loved his family dearly and was a devoted husband, father and grandfathe­r. He had a big heart and was always there to help those in need. He was a faithful supporter of our Lord and one could never eat a meal without Ed making sure Grace was said before taking a bite. Ed had a smile, a personalit­y and an energy that will be greatly missed by all who knew him. One of his greatest memories was of a motorcycle ride across the country in 2010 with ten good friends from Saugerties. Ed Loved talking to everyone and they loved talking with him. He leaves a void that will be difcult to ll. In lieu of owers, Ed’s family asks that a donation in Ed’s name be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnels to Towers or a charity of your choice. Ed’s interment will take place in Norfolk, Virginia at a date to be determined by the family.
