Area theaters host free movies, food drive
Area theaters are hosting free movies for the holidays.
Lyceum Cinemas will host free Christmas movies for children and their families on Saturday, Dec. 19, in conjunction with a food drive to aid needy families.
Now in the 25th year of hosting this annual event, the Lyceum has once again decided to offer two films for attendees to choose from, “The Polar Express” and “The Grinch who stole Christmas”, both rated PG.
Both films will be offered at 10 a.m. am on Dec. 19 and upon entry, people will choose which film they prefer to see.
Admission is free, but seating is limited so tickets must be picked up in advance from the Lyceum Cinemas in Red Hook.
Santa will be on hand at the Lyceum when the doors open at 9 a.m.
The effort is sponsored by the movie theater, the Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union along with local merchants of Red Hook.
Additionally, Roosevelt Cinemas in Hyde Park will host a free Christmas movie and food drive for children
and their families on Thursday, Dec. 24.
The theater will screen “The Polar Express”, rated G, and “Home Alone”, rated PG. Upon entry, attendees will choose which film they want to see.
Cinema doors will be open at noon when Santa will be on hand to visit with children and both films will begin at 1 p.m.
Admission is free, but seating is limited so tickets must be obtained in ad
vance from the Roosevelt Cinemas.
Everyone who attends the movie is asked to bring non-perishable food items for distribution. Food donations may also be dropped off at the theater at any time after 3:30 p.m. any day before Dec. 24.
The production is sponsored by the cinema, I Heart Radio of Poughkeepsie and Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union.
Safe distancing will be adhered to at all times at both events and all attendees must wear a mask until they are seated in the auditoriums.
