The collision happened on the New York State Thruway, near Exit 19, after a northbound chase.

TOWNOF ULSTER, N.Y. » An 11-year- old Brooklyn girl died at the scene of a crash on the Thruway that involved a state police car, police said Thursday.

Monica Goods died when a 2017 Dodge Journey being driven by her father, Tristan G. Goods, 39, of Hollis, Queens, “overturned and collided” with a police car that was chasing the SUV, state police said.

State police said troopers stopped the SUV on the northbound Thruway about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday for a vehicle and traffic violation but that the driver soon sped away and a chase ensued.

During the pursuit, police said in a press release, “Goods lost control of the SUV, overturned and collided with the state police car that was chasing him.” The crash happened in the area of mile marker 93.6, just north of Exit 19 (Kingston), police said.

Trooper Tara McCormick said Monica Goods was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Tristan Goods was taken to the HealthAlliance Hospital’s Broadway Campus in Kingston, and later transferred to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

Asked for additional information about the incident, McCormick said there were “other events that are not included with the press release that I can’t comment over. … The [SUV] did stop and then things happened and the pursuit started.”

McCormick also said the SUV might have changed directions during the crash but that details won’t be made available until after state police complete an accident reconstruction.

McCormick also said she was not authorized to provide the name of the trooper who was chasing the SUV, but she said the person is based at the state police Troop F barracks in the town of Ulster.
