RUBY- Louis Charmello, 97, of Ruby, formally of Kingston, died on Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, peacefully at his home, surrounded by family. Born in East Kingston, he was the son of the late Carmine and Angeline DiCicco Charmello. Loius was a great provider and was always putting his family rst. He enjoyed camping with his wife Elizabeth in Lake George and traveling year after year. He was a devout Catholic and a lifelong parishione­r of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a veteran of The US Army, having served during World War II. One of Louis favorite activities was walking. Not only did he walk to work and home every day he continued to walk several miles a day into his retirement. Louis was beloved by many and had a way about himself that would light up a room the moment that he entered it. Christmas was Louis’s favorite holiday and it could be seen from the extensive decoration­s that he would put up on the exterior and the interior of his home. So much so that the Daily Freeman would put up yearly pictures of his decoration­s. Louis is survived by his three sons, Robert Charmello and his wife Sharon, of Kingston, Joseph Charmello and his wife Carol, of Ruby, David Charmello and his wife Kimberly, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchild­ren, Robert, Danielle, Angela, and Cortney; ve great-grandchild­ren, Nicholas, Alexandra, Olivia, Jack, and Dominick. A great-great-grandchild, Charlotte; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to Louis’s parents, he was predecease­d by his loving wife Eizabeth “Betty” Heaney of 65 years who passed away in 2013. He was also predecease­d by his three siblings, Charles Charmello, Patrick Charmello, and Fannie Bounaquist­a. Louis will be reposing at the Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, from 3 to 7 p.m. The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Interment, with military honors by Joyce-Schirick Post 1386 Color Guard, will be follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of owers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, 400 Aaron Court, Kingston, N.Y., 12401.
