Legion post made our day merry and bright
Dear Editor,
My family woke up to no power, as did many others, on Christmas morning, Friday, Dec. 25. We fumbled through opening presents in the dark, then got ready to celebrate the day at Mass.
As we drove to Kingston, it occurred to me that having no power had made it nearly impossible to make morning coffee — how would I manage to cook Christmas dinner? We happened to be at in intersection in Rosendale. I looked to the right and saw a sign: American Legion Christmas Dinner, 11:00-1:00, Take Out, Free.
On our way back from
Mass, I suggested to my husband perhaps we should call the Legion. I did, and was invited to come right over. What we found there was nothing short of miraculous. Men and women, who also awoke to no power, gathered together on Christmas Day to provide their neighbors with a beautiful Christmas dinner. There was no limit to their generosity. We left laden with delicious meals of lasagna, turkey, ham, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, rolls, and myriad desserts; enough food for days, really. Everything beautifully and lovingly made by our neighbors from Rosendale and Tillson.
My family is grateful to everyone who took time from their own celebrations to make ours merry and bright. In these days of disharmony and illness, we were given a souvenir of what Christmas is truly about: love, limitless generosity, and the Brotherhood of Man.
Thank You Tillson American Legion. Your gift to us will be remembered fondly for all of our Christmases to come!
