Ulster County reports 4more deaths, 200plus recoveries

Ulst e r Count y on Wednesday reported four more deaths due to COVID-19 but also said the number of active cases dropped dramatical­ly for a second consecutiv­e day due to recoveries.

The additional fatalities brought the county’s COVID death toll since last

March to 148. Ten of the deaths have occurred since the beginning of the new year.

After reaching a pandemic high of 2,419 active cases on New Year’s Eve, the number was down to 2,247 on Monday and 2,022 on Tuesday, the most recent day for which data was available.

The county also said Wednesday that the most recent 1,657 test results it received included 114 positives, a rate of 6.9%.

Since COVID testing began last March, Ulster County has had 6,746 confirmed cases of the illness, including 4,576 recoveries.

Dutchess County, meanwhile, reported two additional deaths from COVID and an increase in hospitaliz­ations from 148 to 156.

Dutchess also reported 170 new cases of COVID along with 325 recoveries. The county’s number of active cases, as a result, dropped from 1,674 to 1,517.

To date, Dutchess County has had 13,190 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 11,421 recoveries.

• The Kingston school district on Wednesday reported that two students, four teachers and two staff members tested positive for COVID.

• Onteora reported five new student cases.

• Saugerties said it had three new student cases and two new employee cases.

• Rhinebeck reported that two more staffers and two students tested positive.

• Rondout Valley said it had two new student cases one staff case.

• Highland said it had one more staff case.

• Marlboro said one more student tested positive.

• Pine Plains reported one new student case.
